How to pray the rosary

As customary during our celebration of Flores de Mayo, praying the Holy Rosary every day for the full month of May is one of our integral activities. Leading us into prayer are five families each day. After each mystery, we can silently add our personal prayer intentions so that they become our community intentions. The praying of the Holy Rosary as a community has its indulgence.

The guide for the daily rosary bead-by-bead is shared below. You may also download the googlelinks should you wish to have them stored on your phone and ready for your personal use or to just follow through in the daily prayer on our Facebook page.

What we should know about the rosary.

Excerpts from http://www.usccb.org/.

The Rosary is a Scripture-based prayer.

It begins with the Apostles’ Creed, which summarizes the great mysteries of the Catholic faith. The Our Father, which introduces each mystery, is from the Gospels. The first part of the Hail Mary is the angel’s words announcing Christ’s birth and Elizabeth’s greeting to Mary. St. Pius V officially added the second part of the Hail Mary.

The Mysteries of the Rosary center on the events of Christ’s life. There are four sets of Mysteries: Joyful, Sorrowful, Glorious and––added by Pope John Paul II in 2002––the Luminous.

The repetition in the Rosary is meant to lead one into restful and contemplative prayer related to each Mystery. The gentle repetition of the words helps us to enter into the silence of our hearts, where Christ’s spirit dwells. The Rosary can be said privately or with a group.

The Five Joyful Mysteries are traditionally prayed on the Mondays, Saturdays, and Sundays of Advent:
1. The Annunciation
2. The Visitation
3. The Nativity
4. The Presentation in the Temple
5. The Finding in the Temple

The Five Sorrowful Mysteries are traditionally prayed on the Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays of Lent:
1. The Agony in the Garden
2. The Scourging at the Pillar
3. The Crowning with Thorns
4. The Carrying of the Cross
5. The Crucifixion and Death

2. The Ascension
3. The Descent of the Holy Spirit
4. The Assumption
5. The Coronation of Mary

2. The Wedding Feast at Cana
3. Jesus’ Proclamation of the Coming of the Kingdom of God
4. The Transfiguration
5. The Institution of the Eucharist

Let’s walk you through to PRAY THE ROSARY that is designed for our Flores de Mayo 2021, Inang Maria: Gabay at Biyaya:

Make the Sign of the Cross: In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. AMEN.

THE REGINA COELI PRAYER

(To be prayed during the period of Easter: May 1 – 22)

Queen of Heaven rejoice, alleluia:
For the Son of Whom you did merit to bear, alleluia,
Has risen as He said, alleluia.
Pray for us to God, alleluia.
Rejoice and be glad, O Virgin Mary, alleluia.
For the Lord has truly risen, alleluia.

LET US PRAY

O God, who gave joy to the world through the resurrection of Thy Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, grant we beseech Thee, that through the intercession of the Virgin Mary, His Mother, we may obtain the joys of everlasting life.

Through the same Christ Our Lord. AMEN.

(To be prayed from May 23 – 31)

THE ANGELUS

The Angel of the Lord declared unto Mary.
And she conceived of the Holy Spirit.
Hail Mary…..
Behold the handmaid of the Lord.
Be it done unto me according to thy word.
Hail Mary…..

And the Word was made Flesh.
And dwelt among us.
Hail Mary…..
Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God
That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

THE APOSTLE’S CREED

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord; Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. On the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty; from there He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.

THE OUR FATHER

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be
thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done,
on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our
daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we
forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us
not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

HAIL MARY (3x)

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed are you amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. AMEN

GLORY BE

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. AMEN

For each of the five decades, announce the Mystery (followed by a brief reflection) then say the Our Father.

While fingering each of the ten beads of the decade, next say ten Hail Marys while meditating on the Mystery.

Then say a Glory Be.

After finishing each decade, say the Fatima Prayer: O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell; lead all souls to Heaven, especially those who have most need of your mercy. Amen.

After saying the five decades, say the Hail, Holy Queen:

THE HAIL HOLY QUEEN

Hail, holy Queen, Mother of Mercy! Hail our life, our sweetness, and our hope! To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve; to thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn, then, most gracious Advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us; and after this our exile show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus; O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.
Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God
That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

LET US PRAY:
“O God whose only begotten Son by His Life, Death and Resurrection has purchased for us the rewards of eternal life, Grant we beseech Thee that meditating upon these mysteries of the Most Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we may both imitate what they contain and obtain what they promise, through the same Christ our Lord, AMEN.”

POPE FRANCIS PRAYER TO MARY

O Mary, You shine continuously on our journey as a sign of salvation and hope. We entrust ourselves to you, Health of the Sick, who, at the foot of the cross, were united with Jesus’ suffering, and persevered in your faith.

Protectress of the Roman people, you know our needs, and we know that you will provide, so that, as at Cana in Galilee, joy and celebration may return after this time of trial.

Help us, Mother of Divine Love, to conform ourselves to the will of the Father and to do what Jesus tells us. For He took upon himself our suffering and burdened himself with our sorrows to bring us, through the cross, to the joy of the Resurrection. AMEN.

Revised Oratio Imperata
For Protection Against the Covid-19 Virus
As of January 2021

Merciful and compassionate Father, we come to You in our need to seek Your protection against the COVID 19 virus that has disturbed and even claimed lives.

We ask You now to look upon us with love and by Your healing hand, dispel the fear of sickness and death, restore our hope, and strengthen our faith. We pray that You guide the people tasked to find cures for this disease and to stem its transmission. We thank You for the vaccines developed made possible by Your guiding hands. Bless our efforts to use these vaccines to end the pandemic in our country.

We pray for our health workers that they may minister to the sick with competence and compassion. Grant them health in mind and body, strength in their commitment, protection from the disease.

We pray for those afflicted. May they be restored to health. Protect those who care for them. Grant eternal rest to those who have died. Give us the grace in these trying times to work for the good of all and to help those in need. May our concern and compassion for each other see us through this crisis and lead us to conversion and holiness.

Grant all these through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, Who lives and reigns with You, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God forever and ever. Amen.

We fly to your protection, O Holy Mother of God. Do not despise our petitions in our necessities, but deliver us always from all dangers, O Glorious and Blessed Virgin. Amen.
